LED Lighting

Why Photographers Should Choose LED Lighting

If you are looking to buy your first studio lighting kit or you are looking for an upgrade, there are some great choices available. One of the most cost effective and beneficial options for photography is LED lighting. This option is suitable for both the professional as well as hobby photographers.

The ideal setup for LED photography lights is for a permanent studio, but some photographers (especially real estate photographers and those who do headshots) have been experimenting with portable LED flat panels and other lights. They carry them from job to job and are able to set up LED studios wherever they go.

Some of the reasons for considering the option of LED lighting are…

LED light shoot

1) LED lights are cooler

It is a common experience for photographers to become unbearably hot due to the heat of the conventional lights. On the other hand, the LEDs keep you much more comfortable during the shoots. This is because LEDs don’t release a lot of their energy as heat. Instead, they release it as brilliant light.

There are many other advantages due to the cool nature of LEDs lights. They are cool to the touch so moving them around is easier. The LED lights can be squeezed and put in the corners or tight spaces where it can be dangerous to put traditional lights. Also, various gels can be attached to them without the fear of burning.

2) LED lights use less electricity

LED bulbs convert about 80% of the energy consumed and use it as light. This efficiency is only about 20% in the case of standard tungsten lights. A single LED bulb provides the same light as three tungsten lights all while consuming half the power.

3) Better for the environment

As stated above, LEDs use less electricity than conventional lights. There are many areas of the country which are dependent on fossil fuels for energy needs. By using LEDs, we are doing the environment a big favor by reducing our need to rely on so much of these valuable fuels.

LED lights also have longer life and can work properly for years without encountering any problems. Since there is no need to replace the LEDs as often as other options, there is less waste.

4) Available in various intensities and colors

You can choose the LED lights that fit your color needs rather than changing the camera settings or changing aspects digitally or through film processing techniques. LED colors are available in the variants of both the daylight as well as tungsten balance. They are also available in bi-color.

Normal eyes can’t see the difference between some different lights, but this difference can be detected by the cameras. By using the correct LED lights, you can capture real life colors and save a lot of post processing. There are many LED lighting choices available which can be brightened or dimmed by remote control which gives you more options from behind the camera.

5) LEDs allow seeing the light during shot composition

Flash bulbs provide a burst of light at the time of taking the shot. With the use of LED light, you can see how much light is needed and adjust it on the spot. This will also save a lot of trial and error.
